Since last week, Xiaomi is regularly patenting new technologies for its upcoming smartphones. We have already seen a patent for an under-display rotating camera, a rollable screen, an early education robot, and a dual side sliding screen.
Now the company has published a new design for Xiaomi modular smartphones with a zoom camera module. Of course, we have seen several examples in the past, such as – the Motorola Moto Z, a modular smartphone series that uses Moto Mods modules to expand the functions of the phone.

Meanwhile, a new patent shows that Xiaomi is also considering developing a modular smartphone. Thanks to LetsGoDigital, we have access to the sketches of this patent. The extensive documentation describes detail about a Xiaomi smartphone that is made up of several modules, three to be precise. The functions may differ per module.
The first module (upper part) contains the motherboard and the camera system. In the second module (middle part) the battery is processed. And, the third module forms the underside of the telephone.
The modules are easily interchangeable and can contain additional functions. For example, a speaker module or a zoom camera module. As stated in the documentation, at least two modules have a screen that once joined together, forms a large display panel without any visible seams.
Moreover, the modules can be slid on and off each other by means of a rail system. It can only be correctly confirmed in one way. As soon as it is properly engaged, the modules make contact with each other and the device can be put into use.
The housing can be made of metal or plastic. Two different types of camera modules are shown and described. First of all, we see a square-shaped camera system, consisting of a triple camera with flash, similar to Redmi 9C.
Adding to this, a vertical camera system can be seen, consisting of four cameras. It should be noticed that the bottom lens has a square design. This indicates that this camera module has a periscopic zoom camera, so you can also zoom in with this special device.
We cannot forget that we are meeting a patent without more. By this, what we mean is that for the moment Xiaomi has only registered the idea, a simple idea that will only appear with the time whether it can actually see the light.
