Yesterday, we have seen a patent for new Xiaomi smartphones, with a rotating camera inside the fuselage. As per the reports, it can be used as a front under-screen camera and a rear main camera at the same time.
And now, we have a new patent design by the company, it is a rollable smartphone design. Xiaomi regularly applies for patents to showcase innovative models and this time the company has again recorded a high-profile mobile phone, which has a particularly unique smart speaker design.
As per the information, the design patent was filed by Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) in March 2020. The documentation was approved and published today, May 11, 2021.

The documentation includes 32 product images showing a cylindrical shaped device. The design reminds us of a smart speaker, such as Xiaomi Mi Smart Speaker. However, the brief description clears that it is a ‘mobile phone with a wind-up screen’.
Moreover, the cylindrical-shaped device has a large roll-up display. In its most compressed position, the screen is located on the inside so that it remains protected. A handy frame has been fitted to the side of the screen, which also serves as a handle to pull out the screen.
On the top, it has a single button, probably the on/off button. Whereas at the bottom, it has a large speaker. Connections such as a USB-C connector are not visible in the images. It is possible that this mobile phone can only be charged wirelessly.
When we talk about its camera, it is visible on the back of the housing. Sadly, details about this camera are missing. Finding from the design of the lenses, it appears to be the main camera, a flash, and a zoom camera.
Anyways, this is a unique smartphone to view. The retractable screen and large speaker system make it a suitable multimedia device for watching movies or listening to music. It also seems like an ideal tool to display something to your colleagues or customers.
However, the design seems significantly less suitable for calling but it remains special to see which possibilities Xiaomi is exploring that could determine our future smartphone use.
