China’s largest smartphone maker, Xiaomi is finally joining Samsung and Huawei in the foldable phone market. On March 30, the company has officially launched its first folding smartphone that is Mi Mix Fold.
The Mi Mix Fold has a U-shaped hinge design which will improve the weight and reliability of the folding mechanism. In fact, the weight is said to be reduced by 27% compared to other foldable.
According to the officials, the phones endured 200,000 folds in reliability testing and also managed to survive up to 1 million folds in extreme reliability testing.

Design
Mi MIX Fold comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and ceramic texture. A Ceramic Special Edition with a gold middle frame and volume buttons, as well as a black ceramic back with special laser engraving.

Display –
The standout feature of the Mi Mix Fold is clearly its internal display. It features a flexible 8.01-inch WQHD+ resolution OLED display that is not only the largest foldable display on the market but also larger than some tablets such as iPad mini.
Xiaomi says the display is capable of reaching 900 nits of peak brightness and 600 nits of overall brightness and features a 4,300,000:1 color contrast ratio, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and DCI-P3 color gamut.
Other than the foldable display, the Mi Mix Fold also comes with a 6.52-inch external AMOLED display which is also larger than any other foldable’s external display. It has a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, and HD+ resolution, as well as 900 nits peak brightness, 700 nits overall brightness, and HDR10+ support.
Processor and storage –
The new Mi Mix is powered by Octa-Core Snapdragon 888 5nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 660 GPU. Also, it is paired with 12GB RAM with 256GB internal storage and 16GB RAM with 512GB internal storage.
Software –
However, the company’s latest custom skin version is MIUI 12.5 but the Mi Mix Folds is running on the Android 11 based MIUI 12 operating system. Although it is believed that it will soon receive the MIUI 12.5 update.
Camera –
The Mi Mix Fold has a 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM2 main camera, 8MP liquid lens (30x zoom), and 13MP ultra-wide angle sensor. And, on the front, it has a 20MP selfie shooter.
Battery and connectivity –
As for the battery, it equips a 5,020mAh battery with 67W fast charge support. Moreover, the device supports 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS (L1 + L5), NFC, and USB Type-C.
Audio –
The device has a USB Type-C audio, Quad speakers 3D panoramic sound system, Dual 1216 speakers, and Sound by Harman Kardon.
