New Xiaomi smartphone patent shows rotating pop-up camera technology

Xiaomi is known for patenting weird designs of smartphones. In the last few months, we have seen several new and unique patents for the upcoming Xiaomi devices. Meanwhile, it seems that the company is working on a new design.

Recently, a dutch website shared a new Xiaomi mobile phone camera module design patent. The mobile phone in this patent cancels the front camera, the rear three cameras and flashes are arranged horizontally, and you can also choose to use it. Four cameras, with flip-type design.

Moreover, At the end of 2019, Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software recorded a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a ‘Camera module, terminal device, and image capturing method’.

The 28-page documentation was released on February 18, 2021, after which the patent was also included in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) database for the worldwide protection of the patented technology.

The patent shows that the mobile phone uses a large-size full screen with a narrower screen frame so that users can enjoy a larger screen-to-body ratio. The camera cannot be seen from the front, and the receiver is placed in the frame.

By moving the camera upward through a driving motor and then rotating around the axis, the rear camera can be used as a front camera. Therefore, it is not like the folding camera used in Asus Zenfone 6.

Also, the working principle of rotation is different from that of Samsung Galaxy A80 because when using the latter, part of the structure will also move. And Xiaomi’s patent shows that only the camera system can automatically rotate to take selfies.

As per the report, using the main camera as a front camera can take self-portraits of better quality and save space and cost.

Furthermore, in January this year, Xiaomi obtained a patent called “Electronic Equipment and Hidden Camera”, which uses a rotatable pop-up camera that can also take pictures in both directions.

Xiaomi is undoubtedly one of the smartphone manufacturers that have applied for the most patents for pop-up cameras, but it is still unclear whether and when Xiaomi will apply the patented technology to terminal products.
