Xiaomi forced its Chinese users to delete Google Mobile Services

Alike the other smartphone brands, Xiaomi too has its own Android-based operating system, MIUI. The company is regularly updating it but recently, some users have reported that they are not able to install GMS (Google Mobile Services) on their respective Xiaomi phones.

The restrictions have been noticed after the MIUI 12.5 rollouts in China. On the other hand, the company is aware of this and now issued an official statement via Xiaomi’s spokesperson on Weibo. The statement includes the following four points.

JOIN XIAOMI ON TELEGRAM

  1. The information regarding GMS on Xiaomi phones was shared by an unofficial Xiaomi Community group.
  2. The news is just a rumor, the company is not blocking GMS installation.
  3. The GMS framework comes pre-installed on certain domestic smartphones but it will be not the case in the future.
  4. International version models are not affected.

The report clears that users will not be able to install GMS on their phones by themselves without the required framework. Moreover, the company also mentioned that they will ship more models with a pre-installed GMS package to meet users’ needs.

As of now, it seems like instead of the future, Xiaomi has already removed the framework with the latest MIUI update for some of its devices. Therefore, we believe that with multiple users’ reporting on the issue, the unofficial Xiaomi Community Group brought this news to a wider public.

As the company said, international models are not affected by this so, they need not worry about GMS on their smartphones. And, the Xiaomi users who import their handsets from China, will not be able to install GMS on their devices if it does not come with the required framework.
