Xiaomi Patents a new smartphone with detachable rear camera used to take selfies

Xiaomi is known for patenting weird designs of smartphones. This month, we have seen several new and unique patents for the upcoming Xiaomi devices. Meanwhile, it seems that the company is working on a new design.

According to a new patent, Xiaomi is working on a phone with a detachable rear camera. The images show the rear camera module with multiple lenses that can be removed from and assembled on the top to use it as a front camera.

However, the exact mechanism behind the design isn’t clear but as per the patent, it will include magnets, a receiver, a wireless transmission module, and more.

Following the patent’s design, Xiaomi believes that this modular solution can eventually achieve a full screen without notches and does not affect the sense of immersion. But this design may harm the waterproof and dustproof of the mobile phone.

The image further shows a circular camera module in the patent description. This indicates that the camera module of any size/shape can be detached from the back and attached somewhere else.

Unluckily, there is no way to tell if Xiaomi actually plans to achieve the design and thus launch a commercial phone, but for now, the idea seems interesting if implemented properly.

Besides this, previously, Xiaomi patented a truly innovative pop-up camera technology for its future flagships. This pop-up camera design can be used to capture both regular and selfie pictures/videos. Read More.

Adding to this, just a few days ago Xiaomi patent a new smartphone with a unique sliding screen display. The handset uses a retractable sliding screen which covers most of the entire front, bottom, and back. Read More.
