Later the December, Xiaomi officially uncovered a new version of its custom skin – MIUI 12.5 in China. This new version comes with several improved as well as new features, animations, wallpapers, super wallpapers, sounds, apps, lots of optimizations, new UI, and many more.
Mi 11 is the first smartphone to come with MIUI 12.5, while the company has started providing this version of MIUI for several eligible devices of Xiaomi. The list of handsets that have already received the update includes – Redmi Note 8/Note 8 Pro, Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, Mi 10 series, and more.

Now, according to the latest information, Redmi Note 9 series – Redmi Note 9 global, Note 9 Pro, Note 9S, and Note 9 Pro Max could receive MIUI 12.5 in their next updates.
Besides this, a forum moderator also stated that MIUI 12.5 update for Redmi Note 9 pro is under development. Before the MIUI 12.5 update, the company may release a system security patch.

However, Xiaomi has scheduled to release the MIUI 12.5 stable update in April. It is possible that Xiaomi will push the Android 10-based security patch for Redmi 9 series before the Android 11 arrives.
