Xiaomi Mi 11 equipped with an outstanding fingerprint scanner

As we know, Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship smartphone Mi 11, which comes with amazing features and design. One of the outstanding features of the new Mi 11 is the built-in in-display fingerprint sensor which is double as a heart rate monitor.

Like many other flagship smartphones, Xiaomi Mi 11 has an optical under-display fingerprint scanner, which is provided by Chinese supplier Goodix.

The fingerprint scanner under the optical display actually takes a picture of your finger. Heart rate measurement uses a technique called photoplethysmography (PPG). However, although this feature is exciting, it is worth noting that the technology has been criticized for inaccuracy.

The use of PPG can be achieved through the fingerprint scanner under the optical screen in the smartphone. But this is just a matter of figuring out how to take an image of the finger and determine the heart rate based on the image change.

Xiaomi added support for heart rate monitoring using cameras to its Mi Health app in September. Although PPG is not the most accurate way to measure heart rate, it is a convenient way to understand heart rate without professional medical equipment.

Other than Mi 11’s fingerprint sensor/heart rate monitor, the device can still provide many services. It uses a gorgeous design, a three-camera setup, and is the first device to use the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor.

Xiaomi Mi 11 will be available in China at a pre-order price as per its three variants. The device will be open for sale on January 1, 2021.
